THE INITIAL VALUE PROBLEM FOR LONGITUDINAL AND TRANSVERSAL PLASMA OSCILLATIONS

Journal Article · · Annals of Physics (New York) (U.S.)
The solution of the initial value problem is treated, for the collisionless nonrelativistic linearized BoltzmannVlasov equation for longitudinal and transversal plasma oscillations. Ions are treated as a positive charge background. The method of solution is based upon the eigenfunction expansion method. The problem is reduced to the solution of a system of singular integral equations. In the case of the (anisotropic) equilibrium distribution function, the phenomenon of coupling of longitudinal and transversal plasma oscillations is found and discussed. (auth)
