FACTORS AFFECTING BRAZED JOINT STRENGTH IN HIGH TEMPERATURE APPLICATIONS

Journal Article · · Brit. Welding J.
OSTI ID:4770078
Designers usually request joint strength figures for various brazing filler metals. These cannot be supplied, as other factors in a brazed assembly are more important to the strength of the brazement than the filler metal choice. The base-metal has far more influence on joint strength. Filler metals should be assessed for ability to resist corrosion and oxidation, re-melt temperatures, readiness to diffuse, flow characteristics, etc. Brazing procedures and joint designs are also important factors in achieving strong brazed joints.
