Reactions of Na/sub 2/CO/sub 3/ and ZrO/sub 2/ were investigated at various temperatures, and the formation and crystallization of Na/sub 2/O -- ZrO/ sub 2/ compounds (Na/sub 2/ZrO/sub 3/) were analyzed. Prepa rations of relatively large crystals of pure sodium metazirconates and metahafnates are described. Intraplane distances, crystal lattices, and pycnometric densities were determined. Hydrolysis of sodium metazirconate and metahafnate and their thermal stabilities were determined. (R.V.J.)
