POSITRON ANNIHILATION IN SOLIDS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4769295
An experimental study of the angular correlation of the photons from the anninilation of positrons with electrons in solids is discussed, with particular reference to the information about the electronic structure which can be derived from the results. Approximate calculations were made of the angular distribution of coincidences for an interacting electron gas, a superconductor, a collective- electron ferromagnet and a liquid metal, and the results were compared with experiment. A number of experiments designed to explore the electronic structure of solids are suggested, and possible improvements in experimental technique are proposed. (auth)
