In the apparatus, H/sub 2/ and/or CO in the coolant is oxidized in a catalyst unit, the coolant is cooled, non-radioactive impurities are separated in gel dryers at temperatures between 0 and --70 deg C, and radioactive impurities are separated in adsorbers beiow --70 deg C.
