NON-LINEAR PROPAGATION OF AN AMPLITUDE-MODULATED ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVE IN A PLASMA

Journal Article · · Proc. Phys. Soc. (London)

The authors have studied the change in modulation of an amplitude- modulated electromagnetic wave in a Lorentzian plasma by using the geometrical- optics approximation as well as the wave equation. Expressions for the quadratic dependence of the conductivity on the amplitude of the electric vector have been obtained and used in the present investigation. A critical comparison of the results obtained by the two methods has been made. (auth)
