Following irradiation at 4 K, we measured the shear and compressive properties of candidate insulation systems for ITER toroidal field coils. The insulation systems evaluated (suitable for either vacuum-pressure impregnation or preimpregnation processing) were epoxy, bismaleimide, and polyimide resins with S-2-glass reinforcement; some contained mica and polyimide film barriers. They were exposed to a fast neutron fluence of 1.8 X 10{sup 22} n/m{sup 2}. Results indicated that the shear strength and flexural modulus are more sensitive to irradiation than the compressive strength, modulus, and elongation. Comparison of irradiated materials and of various properties provides insight for selection of insulation systems.
