PRODUCTS WHICH ARE FORMED BY HEATING AT VARIOUS TEMPERATURES COPRECIPITATES OF THE PHOSPHATES OF CALCIUM AND THORIUM (in Italian)
The possible isomorphic substitution of Ca in hydroxyapatite with tetravaient elements with similar ionic radius was studied. To verify such a substitution, various mixtures of the phosphates of Ca and Th, obtained by coprecipitation, were heated to increasing temperatures. The results are summarized. The compounds CaTh(PO/sub 4/)/sub 2/, ThO/sub 2/, and ThP/sub 2/O/ sub 7/, were formed by solid state reactions in mixtures with ratios Ca/Th < 1, and CaTh(PO/sub 4/)/sub 2/ was formed in mixtures with ratios Ca/Th approx equal 1. In mixtures with ratios Ca/Th > 1, CaTh(PO/sub 4/)/sub 2/, ThO/sub 2/, calcium metaphosphate, and calcium polyphosphate are formed. In mixtures with high calcium phosphate excess BETA -Ca/sub 3/(PO/sub 4/)/sub 2/ is formed. The results showed that under the conditions given no substitution occurs. (J.S.R.)
