Complexing in the lanthanum chioride--gluconic acid system at acid pH approximates 3 was studied by ion exchange. Cationic, neutral, and anionic complexes containing from one to six monovalent gluconic acid radicals were formed in the system. The instability constants were determined for LaA/sub n/ (where n is 1 to 6). (R.V.J.)
