DEVELOPMENT OF PROCESS TUBES FOR NUCLEAR SUPERHEAT APPLICATIONS
Technical Report

OSTI ID:4765204
Economic feasibility of thermal spectrum superheated steam power reactors is predicted, among other factors, on the development of a satisfactory process tube. Process tubes, which separate the superheated steam from the boiling water moderator, must: be strong enough to withstand transient differential pressures at operating pressures, have a low neutron absorption cross-section, be associated with low fabrication costs, and have good chemical stability in high temperature steam. Two basic concepts were investigated during the course of the development effort; both appear to have good potential for application in water moderated, superheated steam reactors. (auth)
