Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4764625
Five fuel elements were removed from the JEEP which showed signs of cladding failure. These elements were at a burnup of 250 Mwd/t. The NORA reactor was used for transfer function measurements with elements for the second charge in the Halden Reactor. Design and development of water level gage for the Halden Reactor are reported. Progress was Made in establishing a mathematical model for the dynamics of the Halden core. The steel containment shell and the control and service building for the JEEP II are almost complete. Data obtained in neutron diffraction studies on Cr/sub 2/Te/sub 3/ and Fe 1.17 Te structures are included. Corrosion testing of Al was continued. Reprocessing pilot plant test runs revealed that scrub acidity has a marked effect on the decontamination factors for gross gamma, beta, and RU. Reversed-phase partition chromatography was used for the isolation of Pu from irradiated U solutions. Production of isotopes is steadily increasing, and a method for production of high specific- activity Cr/sup 51/ was developed. (J.R.D.)
