THE EXTRUSION, FORGING, ROLLING, AND EVALUATION OF REFRACTORY ALLOYS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4763235
Metallurgical programs were conducted on the extrusion, forging, and rolling of arc cast Mo--25%W--0.1%Zr, Mo -0.5%Ti --0.08%Zr --0.02%C, and W-- 0.57%Nb alloys. Each of the three alloys was worked successfully by extrusion and subsequent reworking. The extrusion process, as established in previous work, remained primarily the same. However, extrusion temperatures exceeding 4200 deg F were reached in the working of a group of W-base alloys. The maximum temperature attnined was 4320 deg F. In addition, the extrusion process was applied to a variety of refractory alloys in order to supply wrought material for other contractors and governmental agencies. The extrusion data are contained as a portion of the work, but the metallurgical evaluation is not included. (auth)
