A modification of an isotope ratio mass spectrometer is presented which has performed continuously over extended periods of time with limited downtime (<5%). lt is believed that the use of a battery operated emission regulator has reduced the downtime of the instrument to this low level. Carbon isotopic analyses of carbon dioxide gas illustrate the usefulness of this instrument. (auth)
