The parahydrogen conversion and hydrogen-deuterium equilibration reaction on neodymium oxide were investigated over the temperature range 77 to 642 deg K. It was established that the parahydrogen conversion proceeds by a paramagnetic mechanism at low temperatures and by a chemical mechanism at high temperatures. The results are discussed and compared, where relevant, with results that have been obtained on dysprosium, gadolinium, and erbium oxides. (auth)
