METEORITE AGES

Journal Article · · Revs. Modern Phys.
ABS>Dating methods are reviewed for nucleosynthesis, melting of the meteorite parent body, cooling of the parent body, breakup of the parent body, and fall to earth of the meteorite. The actual ages measured are the terrestrial ages, the cosmic-ray exposure ages, the solidification ages, the gas- retention'' ages, and the extinct-radioactivity ages. The mechanisms by which meteorites trap primordial noble gases are described, along with the methods used to fractionate these gases. The preatmospheric sizes of meteorites are examined. (T.F.H.)
