ADIABATIC APPROXIMATION AND PARTICLE CONFINEMENT IN MAGNETIC MIRRORS (in French)

Journal Article · · Cahiers Phys.
OSTI ID:4760573
Starting from the example of the motion of a charged particle in an almost uniform and constant magnetic field, a general adiabatic approximation is developed that is applicable to systems of differential equations that have all solutions nearly periodic. Emphasis is given to the special invariants of the Hamiltonian that lead to a definition of adiabatic invariants. The motion of a particle in a magnetic mirror geometry is considered as an example, up to the second adiabatic invariant. (auth)
