HALL FOEFFICIENT OF SUPERCONDUCTING AND NORMAL Nb-25% Zr. Interim Report
Hall-coefficient measurements were made on cold-rolled Nb--25% Zr in the zero-resistance mixed state at 4.2 deg K and in the normal state at 4.2, 77, and 317 deg K. At sample current densities from 2 x 10/sup 3/ to 1 x 10/sup 4/ amp/cm/ sup 2/ in flelds of 1 and 9 kilogauss, no Hall voltage for the superconducting sample could be observed with equipment capable of detecting voltages as small as 10/sup -9/ volt. An upper limit of the superconducting Hall coefficient was calculated to be 10/sup -15/ m/sup 3//amp-sec. The values of the Hall coefficient for Nb--25% Zr in the normal state are 1.14 x 10/sup -10/, 1.05 x 10/ sup -10/, and 0.84 x 10/sup -10/ m/sup 3//amp-sec at 4.2, 77, and 317 deg K, respectively.
