THE CHRONIC HAZARD IN RABBITS FED WITH CLOVER CONTAMINATED BY FALLOUT

Rabbits fed only with clover were selected for study since grass-eating animals would be contaminated most intensely through exposure to fallout. Sr-90 was detected in Sept. 1958, at levels of 4200-6500 strontium units in ashes of newborn from mothers that had fed only on clover since birth in Feb. 1957. These animals were subjected to clinical tests with respect to radiation hazard. Up to the end of 1960, no signs of distinct hazard due to irradiation were detected, but problems remain that would preclude the acceptance of the theory that such contaminations have no effect on these experimental animals.
