GRAIN REFINEMENT OF DILUTE URANIUM-CHROMIUM ALLOYS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4756887
A study was made of the grain refinement of dilute uranium-alloys, with chromium contents of 0.3, 0.45, and 0.6 at.%, respectively. Samples of the various alloys were isothermally transformed from BETA to alpha in the temperature range 600 to 300 deg C. The transformation temperature that produced the finest grain increased with decreasing chromium content. The range of isothermal transformation temperatures and of chromium content yielding maximum grain refinement was determined. (auth)
