SOME ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELDS OF CYLINDRICAL SYMMETRY
The non-static cylindrically symmetric metric of Einstein and Hosen is considered and several exact solutions of the Einstein-Maxwell field equations in vacuo are obtained, some of which represent null electromagnetic fields. It is found that the metric in case of the null electromagnetic fields is plane symmetric in a sense, and consequently the corresponding solutions represent plane electromagnetic waves. A method is obtained which enables solutions to be constructed, under centain conditions, which represent electromagnetic fields in vacuo from known solutions of the empty space-time field equations and vice versa. Certain results, similar to those obtained in the static axially symmetric case, are also obtained. (auth)
