A New Method of directly measuring the Galactic Magnetic Field

Journal Article · · Nature (London)

A new method is described for directly measuring the galactic magnetic field. The method is based on measurements of Faraday rotation of the plane of polarization due to the presence of anomalous dispersion in the neighborhood of the 21-cm line of natural hydrogen and utilizes data on the existence of polarization in the Crab Nebula at a wave-length of 21 cm.
