Am/sup 241/, with a half life of 462 plus or minus 10 yr and a specific activity of 7.0 x 10/sup 9/ dpm/mg, is valuable as a radiation source. The emitted radiations are 5.49-Mev alphas and 0.0597Mev gammas. Am/sup 241/ can be used as high-intensity alpha sources, low-energy gamma sources, and low- intensity neutron sources using ( alpha ,n) reactions of Be or B. (D.L.C.)
