ON THE COUPLING CONSTANT IN THE PRESENCE OF AN UNSTABLE PARTICLE

Two simple models of quantum field theory, describing the interaction of an unstable particle with two stable ones, are solved. Following PEIERLS, it was assumed that the propagator of an unstable particle has a complex pole on the second Riemann sheet. A definition of the coupling constant is proposed which allows the coupling constant to be expressed in terms of masses and the lifetime of an unstable particle. (auth)
