COATING LARGE REFRACTORY METAL PARTS

Journal Article · · Mater. Design Eng.

The fluidized bed process is used to deposit mixtures of Si, W, B, and other oxidation-resistant coatings. A halogen produced by a generator reacts with particles of metallic compound suspended in a hot fluidized bed by flow of inert carrier gas. The metal halide formed decomposes, depositing pure metal on the refractory part where it diffuses to form a tightly adhering coating. (R.J.S.)
