Uptake of P/sup 32/ by phytoplankton, bacterioplankton, zooplankton, water thyme, overgrowth, and sand was 128 mu C/l in the initial stage of a 46- day experiment. Radioactivity of the phyto- and bacterioplankton was proportional to their biomasses. Sand accumulation was identical to that of the solution, while in zooplankton, water thyme, and overgrowth the concentration exceeded the solution concentration by a factor of 4, and the bacterio- and phytoplankton concentration by a factor of 5. The accumulation dynamics for P/sup 32/ in zoo- and bacterioplanktons indicates a direct digestive relation between these organisms. The maximum uptake of P/sup 32/ by sand and water thyme takes place at the first introduction; in bacteria and animal plankton, 3 hours later. (R.V.J.)
