A linear accelerator for the injection of 40 Mev electrons into the 6 Bev machine of the Deutches Elektronen-Synchrotron is described. The accelerator was designed to place very close limits on the energy deviation and diameter and angntlar divergence of the electron beam to prevent oscillations from building up within the synchrotron. Descriptions are presented of the waveguide construction, electron-gun and pre-buncher, klystrons and drive systems, modulators, vacuum and water systems, and main controls. Performance data show the accelerator operates within the required limits. (H.D.R.)
