An apparatus for nuclear reactors is described that will indicate the position of a movable member ivithin a reactor containment shell from a point outside the shell. The apparatus consists of an energizing coil wound on a ferrous core outside the shell and a permanent magnet fixed to the movable member. (R.J.S.)
