RESEARCH IN NUCLEAR AND RADIOCHEMISTRY. Annual Progress Report for Year Ending January 31, 1963

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4755282
Research in nuclear and radiochemistry involved determining isomeric ratios for several reactions to study the mechanisms and angular momentum dependence of the deexcitation modes involved in the reactions. Proton fission studies on In, Ag, and U/sup 238/ were made to examine range energy relations for U/sup 238/ fission products and to determine mass distributions for In and Ag. Proton fission of rare earths revealed a broad and featureless mass distribution. Techniques for separating Ca and Sr from solutions containing cations and for preparing Ra/sup 226/ and Ra/sup 228/ sources from solutions containing micro amounts of Ra were examined. Application of solid-state detectors to low-level alpha and beta counting situations was also considered. Separate abstracts have been prepared for ten sections of this report. (D.C.W.)
