A QUENCHING CIRCUIT FOR SELF-QUENCHING GEIGER-MULLER ARRAYS

Journal Article · · Arkiv Fysik
OSTI ID:4755048

A fast-acting, stable quenching circuit is designed, as a means of prolonging the lifetime of Geiger-Mueller tubes that are required to operate continuously for periods of years. When ionization builds up to a certain point in the G-M tube, the quenching circuit provides a negative pulse at the G-M anode, after which the anode voltage remains about 100 v below its normal value for about 1 mu sec.
