MOUND LABORATORY MONTHLY PROGRESS REPORT FOR NOVEMBER 1961

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4754630
>In plastics research, various ingredients were added to standard clear diallyl phthalate formulations in an effort to improve heat distortion temperature and impact strength in the cured resins. Data are included on milling and physical properties of these resins. Phase A of the adhesive catalog project was continued during the period. Experimental adhesive formulations were prepared with oxiron 200l resin using anhydride and anhydride-glycol curing systems. Data on these formulations and preliminary evaluations are given. Research on ranger x ray sensor was continued in the areas of film casting techniques, vapor deposition of Be on microfilms, and thickness measurements of uncoated films. Activities in a progranm to develop processes for separating and purifying radioelements are reported along with efforts devoted to supply source evaluation. Progress toward determination of Ra/sup 223/ half-life is reported. Research on Xe isotope separation and purification is reported along with work on separation of He/sup 3/ and He/sup 4/ at 1.5 deg K. Research devoted to determining the fundamental properties of Pu-bearing materials is reported. Data on Pu-Fe alloy density are included along with phase equilibria on Pu-Ce alloy. Calibration of a calorimeter at 100 to 600 deg C by determining the specific heat of Ni is described. Other work is reported on high-temperature Pu oxide systems and glasses. (J.R.D.)
