THE EFFECT OF PLACENTAL PLASMA ON X-RAY DERMATITIS

Four cases of x-ray dermatitis were treated by placental plasma. Chronic local pain disappeared rapidly and the ulcer gradually became smaller, leading finally either to complete healing or to marked improvement. Animals were given a dose of fractiona1 5000 r and the cutaneous changes were studied microscopically. In control animals an incurable ulcer appeared and the hair fell out, but in treated animals the ulcer never occurred and their hair began to grow after 8 weeks. The histological changes did not differ fundamentally between the two groups but the intensity of every change was appreciably slighter in treated animals than in controls. Changes in the blood picture were also very slight in the treated animals. (Abstr. Japan Med., 2: No. 10, Oct. 1962)
