A STUDY OF SOME PROPERTIES OF AN ELECTROSTATIC QUADRUPOLE LENS USING AN AUTOMATIC ELECTRON TRAJECTORY TRACER

A particular form of electrostatic quadrupole lens is investigated with the aid of an electron trajectory tracer. The lens consists of two coaxial cylinders, the outer being at cathode potential and the inner at anode potential. Two symmetrically placed longitudinal slots in the inner produce a quadrupole- type field near the axis. Focal length, focal point, and spherical aberration coefficient are given as functions of slot length for the two planes of symmetry. (auth)
