OXIDATION OF URANIUM MONOCARBIDE

Compacts of uranium monocarbide with a density of nd CO at temperatures in the range 350 to 1000 deg C and all the reactions found to obey a linear rate law. The linear rate constants increased as the temperature increased and the density decreased, and for dense compacts were normally similar to or less than the corresponding values for uranium metal, the notable exception being for CO/ sub 2/ at 500 to 700 deg C.
