EFFECTS OF ROENTGEN IRRADIATION ON GLUCOSE AND FATTY ACID TRANSPORT IN SMALL INTESTINE OF RATS (in German)

Journal Article · · Strahlentherapie (West Germany)
OSTI ID:4753213
In rats the transport of glucose, fatty acids, and water in everted small intestinal segments was investigated before and 22 and 44 hours after local irradiation of the small intestine with 1200 r. Twelve hours after irradiation the active transport of glucose and fatty acids was increased compared to the initial values; while the uptake of glucose and fatty acids was decreased. Fourty-four hours after irradiation the active transport as well as the uptake of glucose and fatty acids were diminished. The changes of the transport of water were similar to those of the substances mentioned. It was concluded that the effect of the irradiation on the active transport of glucose and fatty acids in the small intestine occurs without affecting the energy metabolism. (auth)
