AN IMPROVED TITRIMETRIC METHOD FOR THE PRECISE DETERMINATION OF URANIUM

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4753177

A precise potentiometric titration method used for determining U has been re-evaluated and improved. The improvement eliminates the slow, tedious dichromate titration of the uranium(IV)--uranium(VI) end point, and replaces it with a rapid colorimetric determination of a slight excess of oxidant. This innovation decreases the time required for an analysis by 30 min, minimizes the number of determinations that yield no useful result, and makes the procedure more adaptabie to the handling of a larger number of samples simultaneously. All this is accomplished with no significant change in the precision, which remains at 0.015% per determination. (auth)
