SUPERNOVA OUTBURSTS AND THE INTERSTELLAR MEDIUM

Grounds are given for the conclusion that a supernova outburst in the interstellar medium can be considered as an adiabatic strong explosion in a medium with constant thermal capacity. The automodular solution of the strong explosion problem is applied for studying the character of disturbances in the interstellar medium surrounding the supernova. Thus, in particular, a new formula is obtained for the deceleration time of expanding nebulae---remnants of supernova outbursts. Astrophysical consequences which follow from this discussion of the character of disturbances in the interstellar medium during supernova outbursts are considered briefly. (auth)
