PROPERTIES OF VERTEX FUNCTIONS IN STRONG INTERACTIONS (thesis)

Thesis/Dissertation ·
OSTI ID:4751343
Analytic properties of some vertex functions of strongly interacting particles are studied in order to obtain relations between the masses and the coupling constants. The vertex SIGMA LAMBDA pi is studied for even SIGMA LAMBDA relative parity. A relationship between the masses of SIGMA , LAMBDA , and pi and the SIGMA LAMBDA pi coupling constant is obtained. The techniques derived are applied to the vertices of SIGMA KN and LAMBDA KN. The value of the ratio of LAMBDA KN and SIGMA KN coupling constants is obtained. Calculation of the isovector charge form factor of SIGMA -particle is performed. Only the two pion intermediate states are retained and the amplitude pi + pi yields SIGMA + SIGMA is approximated by a LAMBDA -pole. By writing down an unsubtracted dispersion relation for the charge form factor for zero momentum transfer and by invoking the requirement of normalization at zero momentum transfer, another independent relation between the masses of SIGMA , LAMBDA , and pi and the SIGMA LAMBDA pi coupling constant is obtained. By combining this relation with a previously obtained relation, the values of the SIGMA LAMBDA pi coupling constant and SIGMA -mass are calculated. The electromagnetic form factor of SIGMA is calculated by a technique suggested by Cutkosky. The value of anomalous magnetic moment of SIGMA is obtained. (auth)
