THE IMPORTANCE OF NUCLEAR PHYSICS PRINCIPLES FOR THE INTERPRETATION OF FAST BREEDER REACTORS (in German)

Journal Article · · Physik. Verhandl., Verband Deut. Physik. Ges.
OSTI ID:4751089
The production of Pu/sup 239/ from U/sup 238/ in reactors is discussed along with the production of U/sup 233/ from Th/sup 232/. The rates of production of these fissionable isotopes are also discussed as a basis for the breeder reactor concept. The possibility of the operation of a fast breeder reactor in a closed U/sup 238/Pu/sup 239/ cycle is reviewed. The resonance structure of the neutron absorption cross section for almost all elements is described. Criticality, dynamic stability, resonance processes, Doppler coefficient, and effective cross sections are discussed. (M.C.G.)
