Effective Cross Sections for Bremsstrahlung and Pair Production at High Energies; WIRKUNGSQUERSCHNITTE FUR BREMSSTRAHLUNG UND PAARERZEUGUNG BEI HOHEN ENERGIEN

Differential and integral cross sections for bremsstrahlung and pair production at high energies derived to three degrees of approximation are given. Formulas from Born's approximation for a pure Coulomb field are noted to be unreliable, but are used as a starting point for the other two treatments. In the next approximation the screening effect of atomic electrons is taken into account. The third approximation incorporates Coulomb corrections; and, finally, formulas containing both Coulomb and screening corrections are presented. Validity of the formulas is also discussed, and comparative graphs are included. (D.C.W.)
