Title: OBSERVABLE REORIENTATION EFFECTS IN HEAVY-ION COULOMB EXCITATION

Journal Article · · Canadian Journal of Physics (Canada)

It is shown that the reorientation effect for the first excited states of such nuclei as Fe/sup 56/, Ti/sup 46/, and Mg/sup 24/ is large enough to permit measurements of the quadrupole moments of these states. The effects appear to be larger for the differential excitation cross section than for the angular distribution of gamma rays following Coulomb excitation. To obtain this result, computer calculations were performed of cross-section and angular- distribution expressions from previous work. (C.E.S.)
