HOW GOOD ARE THE NEW ATOMIC WEIGHTS

Aspects of the newly adopted 1961 International Table of Relative Atomic Weights, based on 12 as the assigned atomic mass of C/sup 12/, that should make it more useful to chemists are presented. Discussion is also given on its limitations and possible means of further improvement. It is stressed that chemical methods and mass spectrometric procedures can often complement each other. (P.C.H.)
