INFLUENCE OF A MODERATE DOSE OF $sup 60$Co GAMMA RAYS ON THE GLYCOGENE CONTENT IN CHICK EMBRYO LIVER

The effects of gamma radiation on the liver glycogen content of chick embryos were investigated. The results indicated that as far as the glycogen content of the liver is concerned, the chick embryos behave like adult mammals after irradiation and after the application of ACTH and cysteamine. However, a dose of 460 r combined with cortisone increased the glycogen content in the liver during the first 24 hr after the treatment, while cysteamine inhibited the deposition of glycogen when used together with radiation; cortisone and cysteamine diminished glycogen reserves in the embryo of normal chicks.
