ION BEAM CHARACTERISTICS OF THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY ELECTROSTATIC PARTICLE ACCELERATOR (thesis)

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4749439
Expressions for the focusing properties of each segment of the accelerating tube and high voltage lens system of the Ohio State University electrostatic particle accelerator are derived separately. The system as a whole is then treated, and crossover characteristics of one lens are discussed. Operation of the energy analyzing magnet is examined, and an expression relating field strength to proton energy is presented. Calibration of the analyzer system using p- gamma resonances of aluminum, fluorine, and lithium reveals an unexpected divergence of the magnet energy constant, perhaps due to frequency counter instability.
