Studies were made of the effects of external forces on reactors in nuclear-powered ships. Systematic vibration tests were carried out on actual ships. (M.C.G.) Problems in the operation of nuclear-powered ships are discussed including ports to be entered and cleared, safety control over ship and harbor area, disaster at sea and salvage, laws and regulations, insurance, and international agree ment on operation. Problems in accepting Savannah's call are outlined. Domestic and international situations and their relation to operation of nuclear-powered ships are discussed. (M.C.G.)
