LOW PRESSURE CONTACT CARBURIZATION OF 304 STAINLESS STEEL AND GRAPHITE

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4749247
The potential carburization of Type 304 stainless steel by graphite under conditions found in the calandria core of ASCR was investigated. Tests performed at 1300 deg F in He atmosphere indicated no carburization occurred with contact pressures below 50 psi. Specimens were evaluated on the basis of metallographic examination, hardness tests, and chemical analyses. (auth)
