An equation for determining the effectiveness of a group of black absorber rods symmetrically arranged in a ring is derived. The applicability of the derived equation, depending on the reactivity worth of the absorber system and the properties of the reactor system in which the absorber rods are inserted, is discussed. The application of this equation considerably shortens the calculation for determining the reactivity worth of symmetrically arranged absorber rods on the basis of the two-group diffusion theory.
