Cost estimates and unit-energy costs are given for a two-unit installation at Douglas Point Station in Britain. Capital-cost and unit-energy cost comparisons are given between the Bodega Bay Plant (USA, 313 Mw(e) net) and a 300-Mw(e) version of the Douglas Point unit. The present situation of nuclear fuel costs in USA is discussed briefly. The economy of heavy-water reactors as compared with gas-cooled graphite and enriched light-water reactors is discussed, and the probable future of heavy-water reactors in the nuclear power programs of the world is considered.
