A RECOIL STUDY OF THE REACTION C$sup 12$(p,pn)C$sup 1$$sup 1$

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4748189
Recoil ranges of C/sup 11/ from the reaction C/sup 12/(p,pn)C/sup 11/ are presented for incident proton energies from 0.25 to 6.2 Bev. From these data it was concluded that a neutron evaporation mechanism cannot be the major mechanism. The results for incident energies of 3 and 6.2 Bev are consistent with a fast reaction consisting of a single inelastic nucleonnucleon collision. Assuming this mechanism, an average kinetic energy of l9 Mev can be deduced for the struck neutron (before the collision) in the C/sup 12/ nucleus. (auth)
