The oxidative leaching of the lower oxidation states of U in the carbonate leaching of ores can be catalyzed by nickel ammonium sulfate. The catalyst preferably is added to the thickener underflow in an amount ranging from 0.1 to 10 lb/ton ore, and the oxidation is carried out using O/sub 2/. Several examples of the use of the catalyst are given. (D.L.C.)
