COAXIAL FILAMENT TRANSFORMERS FOR PULSE CIRCUITS
This patent relates to a filament power supply for high speed high voltage pulse tubes in which the filament supply is fully isolated from the output of the tube. Pulses are generated by discharging an electrically charged line through the tube. Filament current for the tube is obtained from a transformer, the secondary winding of which is a coaxial cable having both ends of the inner conductor connected to the filament terminals and both ends of the outer conductor grounded. The outer conductor has a break at its midpoint. With alternating current excitntion applied to the primary winding of the transformer, the inner conductor of the cable provides current to the tube filament. Pulse currents, however, are equal and opposite in the inner and outer conductors of the cable and hence do not couple with the transformer. (AEC)
